Master Class in Political Science on “Liberation, Identities and Contemporary Political Dynamics in Goa”
The program began with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Goretti Maria Simoes, Vice Principal of G. R. Kare College of Law. Addressing the audience, she highlighted how master classes bridge the gap between students and experts, encouraging them to actively participate, ask questions, and absorb key insights. The resource person, Dr. Nawoo Varak, Assistant Professor at GCAS, Khandola, delivered an insightful talk linking historical philosophy with modern political realities. He began by comparing basic administrative “Independence” with deeper psychological and structural “Liberation,” drawing parallels between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and political theorist Frantz Fanon to explain the concept of true decolonisation.
Dr. Varak then explored regional identity, breaking down Goan, Gomantak, Maratha, Bahujan, and Marathi cultural archetypes. He explained how these distinct self-perceptions have historically been used by political parties to build dedicated voter bases. Shifting to recent events, he presented a data-driven analysis of the contemporary political scene, highlighting concerns around power consolidation and dynastic politics in Goa.

The session was compered by Ms. Savannah Mascarenhas, student of SYBALLB. The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Ashmita Naik, Assistant Professor and Faculty In-charge, Political Academium.
