On 14th September 2024, the IPR Club, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development and Placement Cell of VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, organized a webinar titled “Career and Challenges in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).” The event featured Adv. Shivani Gupta, a renowned IPR expert and faculty member at KGK PG College, Uttar Pradesh, as the resource person. The session attracted 60 participants, including law students and professionals interested in pursuing careers in IPR. Assistant Professor Sapresh Devidas coordinated the event, ensuring its smooth execution.
Adv. Gupta began the webinar by providing an overview of IPR, explaining the importance of protecting patents, trademarks, copyrights, and geographical indications to promote innovation. She then discussed the wide range of career opportunities in IPR, such as IPR litigation, patent agents, consultants, and in-house corporate counsel, emphasizing the growing demand for professionals with expertise in both law and technology. Gupta also highlighted the necessary qualifications, including specialized courses and the Patent Agent Exam, for aspiring IPR professionals.
Following the career insights, Gupta addressed the key challenges in the IPR field, such as the complexity of laws across different jurisdictions, the increasing problem of piracy and infringement in the digital age, and the lack of awareness among small businesses about the importance of protecting intellectual property. She also noted the challenges posed by rapidly evolving technologies, which demand constant updates to legal frameworks.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A segment, where participants sought advice on specific career paths and legal complexities in IPR. Adv. Gupta’s detailed responses provided further clarity on the subject. In his closing remarks, Assistant Professor Devidas expressed gratitude to the speaker and the organizing teams for the successful event.
