Legal Aid Cell of Canacona – Balli – Fatorpa of G.R. Kare College of Law, Margao – Goa organised a webinar on the topic “Child Abuse In India” on 08th April 2023 at 3.00 pm. Adv. Sourabhi Sahakari was invited as the Resource Person. The topic held much relevance since the
month of April is identified as ‘Child Abuse Prevention month’. In her session, the Resource Person said that a child may be abused in several ways and also highlighted the facts and figures based on the Report of NCRB. She stressed on the gruesome reality that about 4 million children in India are subjected to abuse on day-to-day basis.
The speaker also made a special reference to the case of Raj Kumar V. State. She then mentioned about the Constitutional provisions pertaining to prevention of child abuse and protective measures, the POCSO Act, Little Cop initiative of Goa Police department, Pink Force, and other such mechanisms which help in protecting the Children from abuse to some extent. Furthermore the Resource Person briefed the participants about the steps taken to eradicate the child abuse at the centre
and the state level. She also mentioned about some well known NGOs in Goa who work for protection of Child from abuse and ensure their rehabilitation. She concluded her session by highlighting the reasons where the legal machinery is falling short to achieve its desired goal.
