STREET PLAY BY LEGAL AID CELL – DAVORLIM

As a part of the Legal Aid activities for the academic year 2022-23, the legal aid cell of Davorlim performed street plays at the Davorlim panchayat and near the Davorlim circle on 30th March 2023.

The topic of the street play was ‘Right to education’ , which highlighted the importance of education and how it’s mandatory to school students from the age of 6 -14 years under the RTE act. The importance of a child to get a quality education, irrespective of gender, caste, creed, and family income was depicted through acts. The enactment of the Right to Education Act under Article 21(a) of the Indian Constitution was a major move to change the failing landscape of education in India. Education is one of the most powerful tools to uplift a nation and equip children with essential skills. The Right to Education act is responsible for increasing the enrolment rate in classes 6 to 8, also known as upper primary classes. Many schemes of the government including the mid day meal scheme and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan which provides the students with free text books and uniforms help in the increase of enrollment rate 25-percent reservation strives for social integration of economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups.

The school premises should be a neutral place that welcomes all children to learn and grow together. Both individuals and society benefit from the right to education. It is fundamental for human, social, and economic development and a key element to achieving lasting peace and sustainable development. It is a powerful tool in developing the full potential of everyone and ensuring human dignity, and in promoting individual and collective wellbeing. The Right to Education Act is one of the most important reforms in the Indian education system and it has a cascading effect on students’ lives. But a number of cities, villages and towns are still lacking in implementation and management processes. While we can see an increase in the number of admissions in schools under the RTE act, learning outcomes are on a decline.

Students from the cell gathered in places where general public was passing. Street play was performed at appropriate places which did not cause any disturbance for the movement to the traffic and people

Overall the street plays was a success as we gained a lot of audience who were interested in knowing more about ‘Right to education.’
