
Talk on International Taxation Laws
The International Law Society of VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao, organized a talk on International Taxation Laws at the GD Auditorium on 4th February 2025 at 10:00 am. The resource person for the talk was Prof. Victor Machekhin from Kutafin Moscow State Law University and an expert in international tax laws, tax disputes, tax consulting.The program began with a welcome address delivered by Dr. Maria Goretti Simoes, Officiating Principal of GRKCL.
Asst. Professor Sonia Shirodkar, introduced Prof. Victor and highlighted his extensive academic and professional background.
Prof. Victor began with the talk by sharing his experience of working for five years as a lawyer in the Business Unit before entering into academics. The Resource person highlighted on various issues prevalent in international taxation system and also compared the same with domestic tax system. He explained the importance of digitization in world taxation system. He emphasized that international tax liability is unavoidable for businesses operating across borders and that many tax treaties exist to manage tax obligations. He clarified that tax law is not just about mathematics but primarily about legal principles. While tax calculations are important, the legal aspects of taxation were the main focus in todays times. The resource person also highlighted about various issues associated with double taxation, various tax rules which involve the payment of tax to the government by tax payers and tax administration which involves compliance, documentation, and filings rather than direct payments to the government by tax payers.
The key topics covered under the talk was about double taxation and tax evasion by multinational corporations (MNCs). He also discussed the need for stricter international regulations to prevent and to combat tax avoidance.
The talk was followed by a prize distribution program conducted for competitons conducted by the Consumer Welfare Cell in association with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Goa. Assistant Professor Ruby Luis conducted the prize distribution ceremony.

The event concluded at 12:30 PM, leaving students with valuable insights into international taxation laws and their growing importance in a globalized world.
