VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law organizes one-day State level seminar on ‘Understanding Goa’s Trajectories and Future Prospects’
The Political Science Academium of VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law in association with its MoU partner Sanjeevan Society of Youth Development conducted one-day State level seminar on ‘Understanding Goa’s Trajectories and Future Prospects’ on 4th March 2023 in the college premises. The seminar has seen an august gathering of 70 participants including faculty and students from institutions across Goa.
The seminar started with inaugural ceremony in presence of Chief Guest Dr. K Gireesan, Director of MIT- SOG, MIT WPU, Pune, Dr. Saba Da Silva, Principal of Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Dr. Asha Sawardekar, President of Sanjeevan Society for Youth Development and Ashmita Naik, Assistant Professor & Coordinator of the seminar. The chief guest in his address spoke on political significance of Goa despite being the smallest state in India with a highest per capita income. He gave a detailed account of the unusual turn of events of 2017 and 2022 Legislative assembly elections and also explained how tourism is the backbone of the state’s economy and how it can be made more sustainable.
The seminar was centered around three important sessions:
Sandesh Prabhudessai, Journalist, and Dr. Sudesh Gaude, an Assistant Professor at Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour, served as the resource persons and Naguesh Sardessai, Teacher at People’s Higher Secondary School, served as the session’s moderator for the first session, which was titled “Emerging Issues and Trends in Goan Politics”. Sandesh Prabhudessai spoke on ‘Has Goan Politics Pressed the Self-Destruct Button?’ asking thought provoking question whether it’s a Trajectory or the Tragedy of Goan Politics?” Dr. Sudhesh Gawde proceeded the session with his talk on empowerment of the marginalised Community and suggested was of obtaining authority in decision making bodies like the Panchayats and Municipalities. He concluded by stressing on the need to provide reservations to Persons with disability.


The Second session was titled “the Road Ahead for Public Service Delivery in Goa” It was moderated by Dr. Savio Falleiro, Principal of Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar with Prasad Volvoikar, Managing Director of Goa State and N.D. Agarwal as the resource persons.
N. D. Agarwal enlightened the audience with brief introduction of constitutional provisions regarding governance of the state. Prasad Valvoikar acknowledged the audience with respect to public services and its accessibilities and advantages. He mentioned about Swayampurna Goa campaign that provides services at door step who are unable have access to internet and also citizen service centre for the same.
The third session, titled, ‘Goa’s Economic Growth and Environmental Sustainability’ was moderated by Dattaprasad Shirgurkar, Assistant Professor at MES College, Zuarinagar and the resource persons were Rajendra Kerkar, Environmentalist and Rajkumar Kamat, Managing Director of EP Kamat Group. Rajendra Kerkar emphasized on effective sustainable development and environmental protection. Rajkumar Kamat Spoke on Goa 2035 Vision report for the development of Goa.
Dr. Ajit Parulekar, Director of the Goa Institute of Management, graced the valedictory ceremony of the seminar as a distinguished guest. In his speech, he emphasised the need for a sustainable Goa that aimed for clean resources and energy. He also discussed the employment opportunities that could be created in the state to prevent educated youth from leaving and to help the state advance. S. N. Inavalli, Head of the Department of the institution, gave the vote of thanks at the valedictory ceremony.
